The YEG Fire & Safety Fire Extinguisher Training Course uses state of the art VR simulations to provide an immersive experience without the need for a live fire setup. Our experienced trainers deliver a course designed to give students the knowledge to identify different fire types and the appropriate extinguisher to use, and the skills to do so effectively and safely. Multiple environments and a variety of fire and extinguisher types provide a breadth of experience not available using live fires, and VR simulation provides a much higher level of realism than screen based electronic training. The course can be delivered on-site requiring nothing more than some clear floor space, or is available at our Edmonton retail location.
In-Person, Instructor Led Training
$100 per student
On-Site or In-Store.
Theory, Practical Hands-On Training Prop, and VR Simulator for Practice.
More realistic than screen-based electronic training, safer and more flexible than live fire training.
Our Fire Extinguisher Training course consists of three parts.
Theory & Quiz. This covers the types of fires and extinguishers, plus the RACE and PASS methods. We use a video for consistency, but the instructor is a certified extinguisher technician, and can handle any questions that come up. After watching the video and taking the quiz the instructor will review the material with the class as needed and students canre-takethe quiz as many times as necessary.
Training Prop. Students use a realistic training prop to demonstrate competency in the PASS method.
VR Simulation. Students use a VR headset to practice with different types of extinguishers on different types of fires in different environments.
Students are considered to have completed the course requirements when they have scored a minimum of 75% on the quiz, correctly demonstrated the PASS method with the training prop, and successfully extinguished at least one fire in VR. The employer may set more stringent criteria if they desire. A digital certificate is issued for each successful student.
3 hours of instructor time is allocated for on-site courses, though classes of 10 are usually done in 90 minutes. Students may leave once they have successfully extinguished at least one VR fire, however if things run smoothly then morethathalf that time should be available for students to try a variety of fire types and environments, and we encourage students to take advantage of the full time allocated to run multiple simulations.
For on-site training it is recommended to have at least a 15' x 15' clear "play area" available for the VR simulator practice, and larger classes should have multiple areas available targeting 10 students per group. A seating area for the theory section and quiz, and students waiting to use the simulator, is not necessary but usually appreciated by the students. The quiz is completed on a smartphone using a QR code link provided by the instructor, while the instructor will have a couple of spare phones available it is recommended that all students have their own.
List rate is $100 per student, and booking for on site training comes with a 10 student minimum charge(you can have fewerpresent, but we bill for 10 minimum). 10% off discount applies to classes of 20+ on site, or any class at our store. Travel charges will apply for on-site training outside of the greater Edmonton area.
Students receive a training certificate valid for 2 years, including a verifiable electronic credential.
